Testing the IBM Quantum Experience

Abstract: The appearance of the free online application known as "IBM Quantum Experience" made a huge impact on the quantum community close to two years ago, being the first time that a quantum computing device was available for everyone to run their own experiments. We report our results using it to compute different systems like Mermin inequalities or the Ising Model. We analyze its performance compared with the exact results, give some considerations about observed errors in hardware and software, and compare it with Rigetti computer which was made generally available very recently. We find that the device is truly quantum, but gate and qubit errors are still far too important and larger devices probably will not allow for a full exploit of their quantum properties until these errors are greatly reduced.
